Side Street Cafe in Costa Mesa

I love little places like this. Small and unassuming but a great breakfast spot. Staff was very friendly and the service was quick.

Great “hole in the wall” Tex-Mex diner. A very cozy diner with friendly staff, comfort food, and good coffee.

Went in for some weekend brunch, seemed like a cool casual spot just getting and random table. Decent amount of people waiting, I appreciate that they do first come first serve on the list but my girlfriend and I got a table for 4 when we were only 2, another couple the same. I’m not complaining just seemed odd to me, at the expense of others. Either way food was good, I got chicken fried steak it was not steak though more like Ranchera/ Flap meat so kinda thin.All in all good visit, good service, nothing blew me away as far as quality. Would recommend, wouldn’t recommend Chicken Fried Steak on principle since it’s not steak.

Side Street never disappoints! I almost always order of the "cheapskates" menu, because it includes everything I want, including coffee in the price of about $11! Remember, cash only though!

Went to side street cafe today for a late breakfast, and must I say the food was amazing, but the service was even better. I asked Sendy to serve me her favorite food, and she didn’t disappoint! She came back with a chili omelette (I’ve never even dreamed of having a chili omelette, but it was soooo tasty!,) velvet pancakes w fresh fruit, a side of bread and jam, coffee, and water. Best breakfast I’ve had in a very long time! Thanks Sendy for an amazing experience 🙏🏻 .

Oh boy! Where have you been when I had been searching for the best pancakes in OC? The best pancakes, the best breakfast potatoes! What a cozy place! Highly recommended.

Cheaply priced but heart warming food. House potatoes are awesome, French toasts are to die for. They use Hawaiian bread for their French toasts!

This place is brilliant. The food is amazing and taste very well. The stav is awesome and very friendly not like in another places that they come to you ten times to ask you if is everything o alright. You can beat the ratio between price and taste.

While we have eaten here many times. This was not their standard fare. The meal was extremely salty and not palatable. However, they did a nice recovery about it, and we appreciated that sevice! They do have good food and a good variety that everyone will find something for them. We will try back again. Their sourdough is amazing!!

Cinnamon roll is a must have!!! This place takes cash only so make sure you come prepared. There is an ATM inside but we know ATMs charge a fee so be smart. We ate the breakfast food. Corn PANCAKES were pretty good very different from what I'm used to. Regular pancakes also good but you should definitely go for the stuffed french toast. Staff was friendly and gave pretty good service. Would go again.

This spot was amazing - we stayed a few blocks away and checked google reviews for the spot to go for breakfast. Look no further - great small town feel in the big city! Overall just amazing

Side Street Cafe always provides great food and great service. They remember us everytime we eat there. Even when it's busy, they smile and work fast. The vegetable sandwich is my favorite. French toast, breakfast burrito, hamburger, ahhhh, so good. Be flexible with the staff during all the lame government-imposed COVID-19 restrictions. They run a small business and are doing their best to stay afloat in these difficult times. Eat at independent restaurants, like this one.

Decent food, long wait but nice staff, just wish someone would have checked on our coffee at least once during the meal.

A hearty comfort food breakfast, not the prettiest presentation, friendly staff.

Great breakfast spot! Open till just past lunch time. Food is fresh & hot or fresh & cold depending on what you order. We went an hour before closing & there was no wait to be seated & our server was ready & attentive. The food was fresh and delicious!If there is wait to be seated, it's worth the wait. It's a cash only place so be prepared.

Good Cinnamon Rolls. Unfortunately the rest of the food is average. The country fried steak is quality meat but it's a bit soggy and flavorless. The potatoes have a flavor to them that I don't care for. The bacon is extra fatty and not fully cooked. However it's a nice homey atmosphere. Cash only!

We enjoyed this place so much we went two nights! The food that we got was wonderful and the staff was great from the hostess’s to the servers. Lobster Roll to die for! Lobster Mac and Cheese, yumm! So many good things, can’t possibly mention them all! Highly recommend!

Been coming to the fine local establishment for 15 years. And it never disappoints.My beautiful GF and I each had the 808 breakfast. Being a big "Moco Loco' fan, I was skeptical. But the kitchen could not of been more spot on. The homemade country gravy is out of this world. Costa Mesa original!!!
